Our History

Habitat for Humanity  Sarasota Inc. was founded in 1985. The founders believed that decent housing was the most important need in this community. Habitat's Mission is "to partner with God and community to provide decent affordable housing for people in need so that they may build better lives for their families."

With the support of many churches, community organizations, corporations, individuals, foundations and thousands of volunteers, Habitat Sarasota has built 191 homes in Sarasota County.

The most recently completed development is Jordan’s Crossing across from Tuttle Elementary School and contains 79 single family homes. In 2008 and 2009, Habitat Sarasota was awarded 2 Aurora Awards and 2 Grand Aurora Awards from the Florida Home Builders Association for its newest development on Central Avenue at 20th Street. The seven “green homes” there are built to be sensitive to the environment with solar roof panels, longer lasting construction materials and a roof and wall systems that lower the owner’s utilities costs by 58%.

Habitat manages two very successful ReStore which sells donated furniture and construction materials. Every Habitat home is built by volunteer and funded by private donations. Every donation is tax deductible and 100% of the donation is spent on the home.

We invite you
