New Home Construction
The primary mission of Habitat for Humanity remains new-home construction.
Candidates are qualified through typical mortgage processes. Once qualified, a down payment and “sweat equity” requirement must be fulfilled.
With zero-interest mortgages, low-income requirements, minimal down payments and volunteer labor, Habitat ownership is the best program available for working families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing.

Volunteers are the key to the Habitat new home. There are many specific skills utilized as well as a multitude of general help. Your involvement will result in a lifetime of memories for deserving Habitat families. Working side by side with owners and other volunteers is very rewarding and can only be experienced by coming to our construction sites on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 7:15 a.m.
In 2008 Habitat for Humanity Sarasota, Inc. will introduce new Mediterranean designed homes, built with green panel technology. A Home Front product design, these homes will provide a safer, longer lasting and more economical answer to affordable housing. Going forward, Habitat will design, develop and build two more communities.
The first will be 175 units of mixed products including a community center and day care. The second will be 235 town homes with a lake and day care. Both neighborhoods will be in close proximity to downtown Sarasota providing a commuting alternative to working families.
Come join our teams and help families help themselves by building homes that will be a permanent record of your help and dedication to the local community.
