Women Build Update

Vicki Rocco signed the closing papers for her new Habitat home last Friday. With the help of her Habitat partners and members of the First Baptist singles Bible class, she was finished moving in by Saturday afternoon. Special thanks to the leaders of the moving team - Linda Fields, Priscilla Lindsay, Pastor Eric Want and Habitat volunteer Kris Campbell who provided child care for Vicki's sons while she was busy setting up their new home.
Congratulations Vicki and to all of the volunteers, donors and staff that worked so hard to bring this special home to life for Vicki and "her guys."
We haven't set the date for the next Women Build kick-off, but definitely stay tuned for Women Build #3!
Operation ReHabitat Update
ReHabitat volunteers are hard at work every Wednesday and Saturday morning repairing homes in Newtown, and the news media has taken note. On July 7, Nicki Mayo from SNN 6 visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett where she interviewed the home owners and volunteers. Ms. Mayo got one volunteer on camera who is no stranger to television - NFL player and graduate of Riverview High School, Todd Johnson of the St. Louis Rams. Johnson is also a member of Church of the Palms, the sponsor of the Everett home.
On that same morning, Rob Brannon of the East County Observer came to the job site to write an in-depth article that was published in last Thursday's edition.
Operation ReHabitat is a partnership between the Newtown Front Porch Revitalization Council, Habitat for Humanity and the Global Day of Prayer. Work continues for 90 days. Donations and volunteers are still needed. Volunteers meet on Wednesday and Saturday mornings at the Newtown Redevelopment Office (1782 Dr. ML King Jr. Way) at 7:30 a.m. where they are assigned to the appropriate home site for that day.

Donate , Shop, Volunteer
If you haven't donated your gently-used furniture, household items, appliances or building materials to Habitat, please consider doing so the next time you have an item to give away. Call our donations department at (941) 363-0777 or email them to schedule a pick up. The Bank of America Client Foundation recently donated an additional truck to our operation, so we are able to make pick ups every day but Sunday.
If you just love to browse or if you have a need for a specific item, stop by 2095 17th Street to take a look at our affordable furniture, appliances, building materials and more. Many of our shoppers are so happy with what they find that they become regulars. This week, Greg, the store manager, says to check out the tile!
